Lobster Food and Wine Pairing

LOBSTER EDITION

We thought we would share some of our favorite Eberle wine and lobster pairings just in time for our Lobster Boil on May 19th! Lobster is a delicate dish and should be paired with wines that accentuate the flavors without overpowering. It is generally paired with white wines because the tannins in red wines don’t react well with the iodine that is found in the lobster.

If you don’t get your lobster fix at our Lobster Boil, here are some quick and easy recipe pairings for all your lobster cravings…

2015 Côtes-du-Rôbles Blanc

Variety: 54% GRENACHE BLANC, 44% ROUSSANNE, 2% VIOGNIER
Vineyards: COLBURN, STEINBECK & MILL RD
Appellation: PASO ROBLES
Alcohol: 14.2%

The 2015 Côtes-du-Rôbles Blanc is one our most vibrant renditions of a white Rhône blend. This medium bodied wine is crisp and refreshing, yet has a nice fleshiness that rounds out the mouth. Aromas of lemongrass with notes of white flowers perfume the nose, while the palate is filled with nectarine, honey and a bit of minerality with a balanced acidity. Due to its mineral notes, the Cotes du Robles pairs nicely with any lobster dish.

2015 Chardonnay

Variety: CHARDONNAY
Vineyards: ESTATE
Appellation: PASO ROBLES
Alcohol: 14.5%

This wine is fresh in every way making it one of the most exciting vintages of our Estate Chardonnay to date which we attribute to our new Winemaker’s style. This wine is vibrant in color like newly cut straw with aromas and flavors of ripe pineapple, creamy lemon with a hint of sweet toasty oak. Chardonnay can handle the richness that comes from cream and butter based dishes, so it would pair extremely well with a decadent lobster dish.

2016 Mill Road Viognier

Variety: VIOGNIER
Vineyards: MILL ROAD VINEYARD
Appellation: PASO ROBLES
Alcohol: 14.3%

Viognier perfumes the nose with aromas of citrus blossoms and apricots. Vibrant flavors of white peaches, melon and lemon zest coat the palate followed by a clean and refreshing finish. Viognier is a very food-friendly wine, making it a great choice when trying to pair it with a difficult dish such as a spicy pasta.
